Cut Avi Video Files

This is a small tutorial on how to cut parts of AVI videos.

The tool we'll use for the cutting of the videos is VirtualDub. I use the portable edition which can be downloaded here.
Follow these steps to cut an AVI video:

  • Go to 'File' → 'Open video file…'
  • Once opened, we need to mark the start and the end of the video file. Use the slider to go the the first frame you want to keep.
  • Click the 'Mark In' button
  • Use the slider to go the the last frame you want to keep.
  • Click the 'Mark Out' button
  • Notice on the slider bar the gray area between the mark in and mark out points. This indicates the part we'll keep.
  • Go to 'Video' and select the option 'Direct Stream Copy'
  • Go to 'Audio' and select the option 'Direct Stream Copy'
  • Go to 'File' → 'Save as AVI'
  • VirtualDub will now start saving the selected part and will display a new window to keep you informed on the progress.
See here the mark in and out buttons: cutavi01.jpg
