fixzmdwarning

Fix: zmd: networkmanagermodule (warn): failed to connect to networkmanager

On some my oes and or sles boxes I get the following warning. It doesn't really look important, the box is totally functioning but it makes the logfile a bit more unreadable. If it's not relevant I don't want it in my logs.

This is the specific error:

34 user user warning oesserver zmd: networkmanagermodule (warn): failed to connect to networkmanager

Zmd stands for ZENworks Management Daemon and according to this brief and low quality article it's used within the update system in sles 10 sp1 and forward boxes.

Novell Support

This time Novell provides a small howto on what happens here. When the box it's network is configured using Yast instead of the networkmanager (I prefer Yast by the way) the networkmanager module in zmd does not work. To disable this module in zmd rename the file:

/usr/lib/zmd/modules/Novell.Zenworks.Zmd.NetworkManager.dll

for example like this:

mv /usr/lib/zmd/modules/Novell.Zenworks.Zmd.NetworkManager.dll /usr/lib/zmd/modules/Novell.Zenworks.Zmd.NetworkManager.dll.notneeded

and restart zmd:

/etc/init.d/novell-zmd restart

Now the message will disappear from your logfiles.
